Overview
Reading comprehension is not a single skill. A student who struggles to comprehend a text may be failing at decoding, at vocabulary load, at tracking the argument's structure, or at making inferences that the text requires but does not state. Each failure type requires a different coaching intervention. Restating what the text means does not build comprehension — it provides the answer without building the skill.
The Reading Comprehension Coaching Session designs a session that first diagnoses which sub-skill is failing, then addresses it directly using the text as the vehicle — not as the goal.
What you get: - Diagnostic protocol: determines which comprehension sub-skill is the failure point - Sub-skill targeted intervention for each failure type - Think-aloud coaching: how to externalize the student's comprehension process and intervene at the point of failure - Text-based inference coaching: how to coach inference generation from evidence without giving the inference - Vocabulary support that builds independence rather than dependence - Transfer check: confirms the sub-skill gain using a different passage
Built for: literacy tutors, reading intervention specialists, academic coaches, and tutors supporting students whose comprehension problems resist standard re-reading advice.
