Overview
Trial closes fail when they're used as disguised close attempts — "If I could show you X, would you buy today?" is a manipulative trial close that buyers recognize and resent, not a genuine readiness check. Effective trial closes test agreement on specific points without asking for the final commitment, revealing where the buyer stands so the salesperson can advance or address gaps before attempting the real close.
The Trial Close Framework uses temperature checks at each stage of the conversation to continuously calibrate where the buyer is — so that the formal close attempt is timed to when the buyer is genuinely ready, not when the salesperson hopes they might be.
